The basic principle of a hovercraft is very simple. Basically, air is fed at high speed under the platform af the hovercraft and is fed into a skirt below the platform which inturn inflates and lifts the hovercraft into the air. If you keep feeding the air into the skirt then the hovercraft will stay up or hover in the air about a foot above the ground. The air escapes from under the skirt so this is why you need a constant supply of air forced into the skirt. To make the hovercraft moove forward the engine that supplies the air unnder the skirt also drives a fan or propellor at the back of the hovercraft and this pushes the craft along the ground. There is also a rudder at the back of the fan and this is turned by some handlebars that the operator holds and controls the direction that the hovercraft will go in.
